Polaris Fine Arts Photographic Print Silk Scarf
This approximately 41" square silk scarf looks great on your head, over your shoulders, wrapped inside the neckline of a silk blouse, tied around your hips, and more.
Along with most DBD scarves and wraps in this collection, the image's asymmetry is also your secret weapon--depending on how you fold it (the trick lies in which point of the triangle you make your apex), you might unfold a variety of monochromatic looks from dark to light and from simple in pattern to more complex.
THE STORY
Named Polaris for one of the best known stars in our sky, the subject of this image is actually an original 1930's, WPA-era turbine on display at the Bonneville Dam in the Columbia River Gorge in western Oregon.
The "orbs" on the image are raindrops that were falling as she photographed. Deborah has taught a form of cosmology, and the play of structure and movement, solid metals and weather, shine and shadow reminded her of the great play of star evolution in our skies.
In Polaris, you can find a tiny dot between the two blades of the turbine. It's a raindrop, as are the small streaks and circular orbs of light that dot the blades.
Polaris is a deceptively versatile piece. The deep grays and blacks, combined with the texture, combine to create everything from edgy to dramatic to very classic and elegant business looks.
Polaris in silk twill is probably the piece that Deborah herself gets the most wear out of from mid autumn through spring, and one of a few with which she personally is most likely to travel with.
Polaris has a faint abstract gray first edition DBD logo in the lower right hand corner.
MATERIAL OPTIONS
12 MM CREPE DE CHINE: slightly heavier and translucent with beautiful drape, depth, and subtle shine. Great year round.
SILK TWILL: well known as the silk used in Hermes scarves, the diagonal weave on this silk creates an elegant and classic texture and drape that looks equally great under a suit and as a head wrap.
COLOR
ANDESITE MONOCHROME: a subtle, sparkly palette of blacks, grays, and whites.
INDIGO MONOCHROME: just as graduated but slightly bluer and cooler, moving from deep, saturated indigo gray to pale blue gray with a touch of lavender and white.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
All DBD silk scarves and wraps are individually artisan printed on a photographic printer and hand-hemmed in the USA. Creatively conceived and executed in the mists of Western Oregon and produced in the California wildfire zone, they bear not only beauty and versatility but also a message of regeneration. Each one is unique and slight individual variations are normal.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Hand wash or spot clean with gentle soap (we like SDH Fine Fabric Wash). Iron or steam as desired. These pieces also appreciate having a couple of tablespoons of sea salt added to the rinse water. Iron or steam as desired. Please do not rub fibers when wet, because (like people) in this condition they tend to be vulnerable.
